NTS Introduces New Products and Technologies During CONEXPO

National Trench Safety was once again fortunate to exhibit at the CONEXPO/CON-AGG trade show. The CONEXPO show is held every 3 years in Las Vegas, Nevada and is the premier North American construction equipment trade show.  NTS showcased its emerging products and technologies during the show.  Among those products present included the patented NTS Work Zone Safety System, which provides an integrated fall protection system designed specifically for the trench safety industry.  The Work Zone Safety system features OSHA compliant handrails, a ladder access platform and a davit arm.  The Lite GuardTM Aluminum Shield also was on display and continues to generate interest as an eco-friendly shield capable of reducing large machinery needs by providing a rugged aluminum shield with depth ratings comparable to a steel shield at about half the weight.

NTS also promoted the SBH Slide Rail System that has gained widespread adoption globally and a unique internal hydraulic brace design that will extend the capabilities of the system further. The internal hydraulic bracing will provide users with an additional alternative when designing shoring systems for large open span excavations.  The system eliminates the need for tie back beams and sacrificial beams that can be cumbersome on tight excavations and as with all NTS systems is designed to ensure that the system can be installed safely above the ground without subjecting workers to the potential for soil collapse.  Attendees were able to view an actual in-ground slide rail pit using the proprietary, patent pending design.

The in-ground pit also leveraged one of NTS’s newest technologies, a telemetric pin capable of delivering real-time loading and pressure data exerted on the shoring system. The system is designed for use on high sensitive areas, such as railroads and industrial plants, where an owner may want additional safeguards to ensure adjacent structures are not compromised.  NTS’s Chief Engineer, Joe Turner, discusses the telemetric pin in this month’s Engineer’s Corner feature.

NTS also had the JB Pipe Puller on display throughout the show, which was a constant source of attention from contractors. The JB Pipe Puller is the next generation pipe puller, capable of replacing traditional cable pullers with a quick, safe “J”-link attachment designed to make more efficient pulls while keeping workers safe.  Domestic and international customers alike were very interested in the capability of the machine.

Last but not least among some of the more talked about technologies was NTS’s Mobile App. The NTS Mobile App is designed to be a safety compliance and reference tool for contractors and the competent person.  The app features an excavation safety checklist that the competent person can use to assist with logging requirements established by OSHA, as well as the ability to quickly check OSHA standards for excavations, confined space and fall protection, retrieve, print, email and or text tabulated data, check sloping and benching and much more.  The app is offered free of charge with no obligations.  More information regarding the app can be viewed at ntsafety.wpengine.com/nts-mobile-app.
