Steel Trench Box Shields
We have a complete inventory of trench boxes ranging from lightweight boxes for utility and general maintenance, to large boxes in 4, 6, and 8 inch thick walls designed for the deepest toughest projects. The trench boxes are built with high-strength steel. Four lifting points are built into the sidewalls with pulling eyes. They are adjustable and stackable. The compressed wood in the top horizontal limits bucket damage. The bottom is horizontally protected by a steel drag plate.

Steel Manhole Shields
Steel manhole shields provide strong protective system support when performing manhole installations, point repairs, and similar projects.
NTS offers a broad array of manhole shields that are specifically designed for personnel protection during manhole installations, point repairs, pipe taps, junction box installations, and point inspections.
Many of our manhole shields may be easily handled by smaller excavators and rubber tire backhoes. The following types of manhole shields are available in our rental fleet:
- Single wall lightweight round shields are available in 8.5’ and 10’ diameters and in heights of 4’ and 8’. Adjustable legs and side cut-outs are also available.
- Single wall and double wall shields with wrap-around corner ends are available in 8’ and 10’ widths and in heights of 4’ and 8’.
- Single wall and double wall 4-sided tap boxes are available in widths of 8’ and 10’ and in heights of 4’, 6’, and 8’. Adjustable legs and side cut-outs are also available.
- Hydraulic Manhole Shields in 4’, 6’ and 8’ heights are available for both static protection and hydraulic active trench wall support. These shields are stackable up to 20’ depths.

Hydraulic Manhole Box Shields
Boxes expand hydraulically to allow adjustments for excavation and manhole size. Boxes can be stacked and multiple boxes can be placed in the excavation as a unit.
Hydraulic Manhole Box Shield Options:
- 4’ tall x 8’ deep and weighs 1,200 pounds
- 8’ tall x 8’ deep and weighs 2,000 pounds
Steel Round Manhole Shields
Manhole rounds are specially designed to protect personnel during manhole installations, line taps, valve placements, and spot repairs. Their cylindrical construction incorporates high-strength corrugated steel walls. Adjustable leg supports provide field adjustment of bottom clearance for incoming utilities, accommodating up to 52-inch diameters when utilizing the cut-outs. Light enough for handling with a rubber-tired backhoe, easily stacked for varying depths. Quick-connect pins and keepers enable rapid interlock of stacked manhole rounds.
