Ground Mats Provide Necessary Access for Gas Line Project

A contractor was performing a directional drill project on an existing gas line and would need to cross privately owned land as part of the project that was currently being used as a pasture. The contractor would be transporting a directional drill rig, excavators, and trucks through the pasture and down the gas line while minimizing the ground disturbance.

The contractor wanted to minimize the ground disturbance to avoid conflict with the property owner, as well as to reduce any potential remediation cost. The contractor contacted NTS to see what potential cost-effective options may be available for the project. NTS carries a diverse selection of composite mats that minimize ground Job Story 002disturbance as well as providing traction on the job site. In this particular application, the contractor was looking mainly to prevent ground disturbance and selected NTS’s lighter-weight mat.  The lightweight composite mat is designed to maximize strength to weight, which allows for reduced transportation costs while maintaining on-site performance.

The lightweight ground mats were very successful and helped the contractor to avoid putting extensive ruts through the pasture, while also being able to transport the equipment necessary to complete the direction drill.
